HISTORY

Sugar Ridge Community Church is a non-denominational body with a congregational form of governance. Our mission is to love God and love our neighbors. Our focus is on the Bible, Prayer, and Discipleship through Community. We welcome anyone who seeks the truth of Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Our aim is to see lives transformed in a way that brings glory to God.

But, in the earliest days, the group first met as a Methodist-Episcopal church and was formally organized by the Reverend W.U. Spencer in 1891. The building was finalized in 1893 by Reverend Spencer. The church seems to have ceased activity from 1914-1949. Although Ed Wallen indicates in his 1981 book, that a community church continued to operate in Sugar Ridge, Ohio. In 1949, the church would begin operating as a non-denominational church when the building was sold by the Methodists to a board of trustees.
